About this deal

After a couple of very disappointing recent titles in the Tom Thorne series, Mark Billingham seems to have found his mojo again in Love Like Blood. What puts this novel above Billingham’s other outstanding books is his expert braiding together of a very suspenseful plot with the timely subject of honor killings. Tanner, whose own partner was murdered in their home by what she assumes was a case of mistaken identity. Billingham's passionate depiction of the injustice and brutality that flow from these killings spills from every page, making this one of his most powerful crime novels, written with a fury that does both him and Thorne justice. The writing is always immersive and completely addictive – as a reader you genuinely live with these people for a while.

Tanner was first introduced in a stand-alone, and I hadn't read that since Thorne was a bit tangential to the story. It has been far too long since I have read a Tom Thorne novel and so I couldn’t wait to read Love Like Blood when I moved it to the top of my TBR. But where Thorne and Tanner strive for justice, Muldoon outright relishes rape and murder and Raz is as cold-blooded as they come. e., long-running, the author must come up with interesting cases, or at least a spin on a case that does not seem too familiar to readers of crime fiction; Billingham is a master at this. And then Thorne decides to play judge, jury and executioner himself in the most pathetic and unbelievable confession.Always a joy to spend some time with Tom Thorne, definitively for me one of the best fictional detectives on the scene currently, with Love Like Blood Mark Billingham tackles a sensitive and I think very important subject with a healthy dose of reality and genuine consideration.

I'm one of those readers who doesn't care about the lives of the detectives, so it felt like padding to me. I would like to thank Net Galley and Grove Atlantic for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. She knows from Tom Thornes reputation for not playing by the rules, that he is the one she needs to help her with her ongoing investigation. The result is an intelligent and hugely entertaining thriller that treats its subject with sensitivity. The rapid pace of the book never slows and it is apparent how profoundly occurrences of honor based violence have affected Billingham. In it, Billingham is passionate and truly reinvigorated as he explains why he wrote a novel on the tricky topic of honour killing. This is an excellent addition to the series and I would not only recommend this book but the series itself to any lover of Thrillers. Phil Hendricks, the pathologist, is back for more banter with Thorne and Tanner tentatively joins in, forming a team of three very different cops whose dialogue aids the storytelling.

Taken off the case, Tanner enlists the help of DI Tom Thorne to pursue a pair of ruthless killers and the broker handing out the deadly contracts. Honor killings are a subject I didn’t know much about, but thanks to “Love Like Blood,” I’m now more informed. She has been investigating a series of honour killings in the Muslim, Sikh and Hindu communities and she is convinced the murder of her partner is connected, but Tanner is pulled from the case, put on compassionate leave. Instead, Billingham personalizes the issue by giving us relatable characters of all stripes who are just trying to live their lives. If I was them, I would have let myself get arrested, any half decent lawyer could have gotten the charges dropped. She won't leave the investigation alone though and drags Tom Thorne into her case; unofficially of course. As the killers target their latest victim, Thorne takes the biggest risk of his career and is drawn into a horrifying and disturbing world in which families will do anything to protect their honour. Si l'intrigue est une agréable surprise, j'ai pourtant trouvé l'écriture moins inspirée que par le passé. The rationalization for it is still shocking and astounding, I hope, to all of us: "Respect is important, and you hold on to it by weeding out those who are misled.

It deals with the subject of honour killings and really opened my eyes to what this entails and it is shocking the lengths families will go to in the name of protecting their image and their faith. Sans doute Mark Billingham aurait-il pu se montrer plus incisif, mais poser le problème n'est déjà pas si mal.

All she needs is another cop willing to help, someone with a fluid regard for the rules who won’t mind colouring outside the lines if necessary. Her family had all had cast-iron alibis which Thorne had been unable to break and her murder is still unsolved. Her partner Susan has been brutally murdered, and Tanner is convinced that it was a case of mistaken identity and that she was the real target.
